Ulua Beach is my favorite all-around beach in South Maui. Located on the north end of Wailea, it’s easy to get to from Kihei. Just take South Kihei Road into Wailea. Once you are on Wailea Alanui Drive (the main road that the hotels are off of), look for a small sign pointing to Ulua Beach (between the Andaz and Wailea Elua Village). Enjoy free parking, bathrooms and showers serving both Ulua and Mokapu beaches. Ulua Beach is to the left with an entrance under some trees that provide morning shade if you get there early enough.
Ulua Beach is picturesque with amazing soft sand and lava formations on either end, perfect for snorkeling. The middle is ideal for swimming and the waves are usually calm. My boys love this beach and we’ve made plenty of sand castles under the shade of the trees.
SECRET: Don’t like eating on the sand? Take your lunch over to the grassy area between Ulua and Mokapu for a park like picnic.
My favorite time to enjoy Ulua Beach is at sunset. Read this article for my perfect Maui sunset.
