Yes, we have two and they work great (beware – not all condos in Maui have them)! There is one in the living area and one in the bedroom. Because we also have ceiling fans, we find that we only really need to run the AC at night and while we are getting dressed for dinner (hair dryers and showers tend to warm up the bedroom). We usually turn them off when we wake up and open the lanai doors to listen to the birds. When you leave for the day, please be sure to turn off the AC as electricity on the island is very expensive. Closing all the doors and drapes will keep the condo cool and the AC cools the unit down very quickly when you return. We recommend turning the AC on about 30 minutes prior to bedtime so you can get it to the temperature you like. Note that you can adjust the temperature hotter and cooler, so if it isn’t getting cool enough be sure to turn it down. There are extra blankets in the closet if others in your party prefer it colder than you do!
Yes. There is a closet on the right as you enter. It has beach chairs (backpack style), sand toys, beach towels, a picnic blanket, soft ice chest, umbrellas, beach tent, wagon, boogie boards, pool noodles and other items you may need. I recommend bringing life vests for young children and bringing your own snorkel gear or renting. Note that things get broken or “misplaced” by guests from time to time so the availability of items are not guaranteed. We try and replace broken or missing items as soon as we are aware, so please let me know if you don’t have everything you need.
Yes and yes. You will receive the internet password upon check in. The internet is managed by the Maui Kamaole association, and I have been told that we have one of the best and fastest services on the island. Troubleshooting Nothing is more frustrating than not being able to get on the internet. If you are having trouble accessing, try these suggestions: • The password is case sensitive, so double check what you have entered is correct. • Check with the front desk if you think the router isn’t working or needs to be reset. • If the internet still doesn’t work, you might just need to wait and try again later. (This is a good time to get to the beach!) I have experienced very short periods of outages in the unit and when that happens, I use my cell phone as a hot spot to connect my laptop until it starts working again (check your plan first to make sure you can do that for free). Mahalo for your patience as this one is out of my control!
Yes, yes and yes!
Families with children are absolutely welcome! We have two young boys and purchased at Maui Kamaole for many of its family friendly elements.
Anthurium House’s extra spacious floorplan leaves plenty of room for play in the living room, private courtyard and lanai, which leads out to a large grassy area. The air conditioned bedroom with black out curtains is down the hall from the rest of the unit, so nappers can sleep soundly. While the new queen size sofa sleeper (with upgraded memory foam mattress) is quite comfortable, the bedroom is large enough to fit a rented crib, pack-n-play or roll away if you prefer your children closer to you. Both mattresses are covered with a waterproof cover…just in case. (On that note, please consider having your younger children wear pull-ups to bed even if they don’t have accidents at home. Juice + Maui pineapple + sleeping hard after a day in the sun = … moms, you know!)
To make travel with children even easier, I offer many kid amenities like children’s books and dvds, plastic dishes/cups/silverware, booster chair for eating, Bumbo, sit and stand 2 child stroller, wagon, sand toys, pack-n-play, inflatable mattress and more! You must request the larger items since I store them in the owner’s closet to keep them out of the way for other guests (and I’ve had some things go missing). Please be sure to wipe them down carefully after use!
Maui Kamaole offers two tennis courts and two pools for only 316 units, so depending on when you go you may be one of only a handful of people there. (Compare that ratio to our neighboring high rise community with one pool for 400 units.) However, please be sure to respect the community rules that will be provided at check in to maintain a peaceful environment for the enjoyment of all guests (e.g., disruptive games like Marco Polo and large inflatables in the pool are prohibited, no skateboards/scooters, etc.). I let my children have fun, but I also don’t enjoy screaming kids when I’m trying to relax so I make sure they know and follow the rules.
For the health of all guests, please note that smoking is strictly prohibited in guest units, on lanais and in public areas. Designated smoking areas can be found throughout the community, but if you are a smoker, please consider a different property. No animals are allowed in the unit or in the Maui Kamaole complex (with the exception of service animals accompanying a person medically certified as disabled). We have family members with severe allergies, so we respectfully ask you to please select another property if you smoke or are bringing an animal with you.

The community has a very strict 4 person occupancy for all one bedroom units. Two bedrooms can sleep up to 6. If you have a large group, I have the contact information for other owner-direct rentals in the same building that I can provide you. The master bedroom has a California King bed and plenty of carpet space if you need to rent a crib, roll away or pack-n-play. We have blackout curtains for afternoon naps. The living room, which is separated from the bedroom by a long hall, also has a very comfortable, brand new (as of October 2017) queen size sleeper sofa with a memory foam mattress. There are two ottomans to store the blankets and pillows during the day.

Check-in Procedure:
Guests will receive check-in instructions prior to arrival. Guests must be 21 years of age or older to check-in and are required to show a photo ID and credit card upon check-in. The lock is electronic so no keys will be given. You will be provided a code to access the unit. Please enter the number into your phone in case you forget it.
Accidental Property Damage Protection (APDP):
While we hope you take good care of Anthurium House during your stay, accidents happen. Your rate automatically includes $1,500 in property damage. If any damage should occur during your stay, as a courtesy please contact amy@secretsofmaui.com or call (916) 642-2936 so we may repair or replace the damaged item prior to the next guest’s arrival.
—Legal language for APDP—
Owner has elected not to charge and hold a damage deposit from Guest. Instead, Owner accepts a fee of $45.00 which provides $1,500 of Accidental Property Damage Protection (APDP) coverage on behalf of Guest for any accidental damage reported to owner during reservation time period. This does not limit Guest’s liability to the amount of APDP coverage. Guest is liable for, and will reimburse Owner for full replacement costs, extra cleaning costs, and any lost future rental revenue due to damage or loss that occurs to the premises and its contents during Guest’s reservation dates that exceeds the APDP coverage amount, or full amount for any damage determined solely by Owner to be non-Accidental in nature. If damage occurs, Guest shall make best efforts to report the incident to Owner without undue delay and no later than the end of Guest’s reservation time period. Owner has a thorough inspection policy to ensure Property is in good condition and that Guest will not be inadvertently held responsible for missing or broken items. Guest shall assist Owner by performing an immediate walk-through upon arrival and report any pre-existing damage or cleaning issues to Owner within 24 hours of arrival.

Front Desk, Property Manager & Housekeeping:
PROPERTY: The Maui Kamaole front desk staff and security are able to provide you with information and assistance with regard to the exterior and community property itself, including questions about the pool or noise/security concerns, etc.
INTERIOR: Condominium Rentals Hawaii (CRH) is our on-island property management and their staff is happy to assist you with any questions or concerns regarding the interior, including broken or damaged items and getting locked out. Contact information is clearly displayed in the kitchen. Please add their number to your cell phone for emergencies: (808) 879-2778
HOUSECLEANING: If at check-in you feel the condo is not cleaned to acceptable standards, please contact our housekeeper Lindsey (his phone number is also on counter in the kitchen) first and then call or text me at (916) 642-2936. While we always strive to have the unit as clean as possible, items may get missed during cleans between guests. Please allow us the opportunity to make it right.
Towels & Linens:
We regularly buy and replace our towels and linens, but make-up and sunscreen can ruin them quickly. You will find extra towels, bedding and pillows in the closet should you find any stained or damaged items. Remember that you are staying in a personal home at the beach — not a hotel — and understand that while our cleanliness standards are very high, we can’t “guarantee” perfection and sometimes stained items might make their way through the wash. Please feel free to throw away the damaged item and send me a note so I can get it replaced right away. Mahalo for your assistance!
Sunscreen:
Please note that sunscreen stains. We ask that spray sunscreen is only applied outside and towels are used as needed to avoid staining furniture. Mahalo!
Hard Water:
Please note that water stains in the shower and toilets are common as the water in Maui is incredibly hard. Even with regularly scheduled deep cleans, they are almost impossible to get rid of. I assure you that the showers and toilets are carefully cleaned between each guest.
Pests:
You will be staying in the tropics and the price of being in paradise may include pests such as ants, insects, spiders, rodents and geckos. Although professional pest control companies service the property regularly, pests — especially tiny “ghost ants” may appear. If they do, contact me ASAP so I can add the property to the Thursday interior treatment rotation. Please do your part by ensuring you leave the screen doors closed at all time, wiping down after eating and securing food properly (we often leave food that can attract ants in the microwave or fridge). Anyone who lives on the island will tell you there is nothing you can do about the ants; they even show up at the Ritz Carlton! Fortunately, they are easy to wipe up with soap and water. I also have kitchen safe ant spray if you need in the closet with the washer/dryer. I apologize in advance if they decide to join in on your vacation!
Start-up Supply:
As an added note, Anthurium House includes a startup supply of bar hand soap, dish and laundry soap, paper towels and toilet tissue; replenishment of these items is the guest’s responsibility. Please be sure to bring your own shampoo, conditioner, body soap and other toiletries.
Community Rules:
For the health of all guests, please note that smoking is strictly prohibited in guest units, on lanais and in public areas. Designated smoking areas can be found throughout the community, but if you are a smoker, please consider a different property.
No animals are allowed in the unit or in the Maui Kamaole complex (with the exception of service animals accompanying a person medically certified as disabled). We have family members with severe allergies, so we respectfully ask you to please select another property if you smoke or are bringing an animal with you.
Families with children are welcome (we have two young boys), but please respect the community rules (will be provided at check in) to maintain a peaceful environment for the enjoyment of all guests (e.g., disruptive games and large inflatables in the pool are prohibited, no skateboards/scooters, etc.).
Quiet Hours:
All occupants and visitors are requested to be considerate of their neighbors. Quiet hours are from 10:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. During quiet hours, televisions, music, etc., shall be played at reduced volume. Washers, dryers, dishwashers, garbage disposals, or vacuum cleaners cannot be operated before 8:00 a.m. or after 10:00 p.m. Bathroom fans cannot be left running during quiet hours. In addition, no person shall make or permit any disturbing noises, interfere with the rights, comforts or convenience of other guests regardless of hour of the day. Excessive and/or disturbing noise of any kind at any time should be reported to the Resident Manager or security personnel, who shall take appropriate action.
Recreation Hours:
The pool recreation areas are open between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m., except Saturday until 10:00 p.m. NO LIFEGUARD IS ON DUTY AT EITHER POOL. No glass or other breakable items are allowed in the pool area. The tennis courts are open between 7:00 a.m. and darkness. Sign-up sheets for the tennis courts are available at the Front Desk at least one day in advance.
Trash and Recycling:
Garbage and other trash should be disposed of in the dumpster in front of the building. There are designated containers next to the large trash enclosure for recycling plastic, paper, and glass.
Parking:
Anthurium House has one FREE exclusive parking space (A21). Cars parked in the space must display a parking permit received at the front desk at check-in. If an additional space is needed for longer than 24 hours, guests most purchase a 7-day visitor parking pass for $34.00. For less than one week, a daily pass may be purchased for $10.00 per day. If a visitor parking space is needed for more than one week and less than one month, additional weekly passes can be purchased at the same time and at the normal weekly rate. NOTE: A short-term visitor parking pass does not guarantee the availability of a visitor parking space or assign any particular space to the user, but allows the use of any available visitor space. The front desk will issue all parking passes during normal business hours. Should the front desk be closed at the time of arrival on property, the parking pass can be purchased the next day. All persons obtaining a parking pass will be required to sign a parking liability waiver form.
No Additional Guests Allowed:
Our community has a strict 4 person maximum occupancy in the one bedroom units. While our condo is extra spacious, only the number of guests specified at the time of booking are allowed in the unit. NO PARTIES ALLOWED in the condo or on the property.
Think Green:
Please turn off all AC units, lights and TV when not in the condo. Maui burns fossil fuel and electricity on the island is expensive. Please do your part to help keep Maui Green.
Beach Gear:
Although beach gear is provided in the unit, use of the gear is at your own risk. The ocean waves are very unpredictable and injury may occur. Always be alert when you are in the ocean and never turn your back on the waves. Please use beach showers or the hose in front of the unit to remove sand from our beach gear before returning to the closet.

OWNER, SECRETS OF MAUI & ANTHURIUM HOUSE
Click on the questions to view the answers.
Anthurium House is unit A101 at Maui Kamaole in South Kihei (2777 South Kihei Road). It is a front row, ocean view, ground floor, end unit in the “A” (Anthurium) cluster. We think it’s the best location in the community because it sits above South Kihei Road and doesn’t face the roofs of any other condo communities. It is a very private location. You can’t see the road or boat ramp parking lot from the lanai and its elevated position helps reduce car noise. The birds also love the landscaped area in front of our unit, so you will hear the birds more than the cars. You may hear a small boat or two in the morning, but only if you try to hear it (we know because we tested that before we bought the unit). When in Hawaii, we’d rather enjoy the sounds and views of nature and our premier location is the main reason we bought it. Take a few steps onto the grass from the lanai and it opens up to a 180 degree ocean view – perfect for watching sunsets. The quiet community of Maui Hill sits next door, but the parking lot ends near our unit so you rarely will see or hear a moving car. Click here to view an area and community map at the bottom of the page.
Yes! A gorgeous one. We chose this unit because of its view. It is rare to find a ground floor unit with an unobstructed view in Kihei, but we found a very special one. Besides the power lines that run along South Kihei Road, when you look out at the ocean from inside the unit, the only thing you see is beautiful landscaping, ocean and sky! Not all front row units at Maui Kamaole can say this, but because of our elevation and angle, Anthurium House has one of the premier views in the community. Take a few steps out onto the grass from the lanai, and your view stretches 180 degrees and goes from the island of Kahoʻolawe past Lānaʻi to the West Maui mountains. The sunset moves depending on the time of year, but it often is directly in front of the unit and sets directly into the water (many locations on Maui have limited sunsets because the sun goes down behind Lānaʻi or the West Maui mountains).
There are a few ways you can get to South Kihei Road, but I prefer exiting the highway from Kilohana Drive. It has fewer stops signs than some of the other roads, is a prettier approach and you avoid most of the beach traffic on South Kihei Road. The directions on your phone will probably give you the previous exit since the Kilohana turn off is actually past Maui Kamaole, and that will work as well (note that the community will be on the left in that case). Sometimes if I’m antsy to see the ocean, I will drive all of South Kihei Road starting from the north to remind me where everything is (note this will add significant time).
(Drive time approximately 30 minutes): 1. Depart Keolani Pl toward Lanui Circle (0.5 mi) 2. Keep straight onto HI-380 / Keolani Pl (1.5 mi) 3. Turn right to stay on HI-380 / Dairy Rd (0.2 mi) 4. Turn left onto HI-311 S / S Puunene Ave / Mokulele Hwy (6.5 mi) 5. Keep straight onto HI-31 S / Piilani Hwy (5.9 mi) 6. Turn right onto Kilohana Dr (0.7 mi) 7. Turn right onto S Kihei Rd (0.4 mi) 8. Arrive at Maui Kamaole on the right, 2777 S Kihei Rd (across from Kihei Boat Ramp) 9. Drive up the hill veering slightly right to the front office/pool area for check in. You will pass the Anthurium Cluster where Anthurium House is located on your right as you enter.
Once you pay your deposit, you will receive a welcome email from Condominium Rentals Hawaii (CRH), our on-island property managers. It will include your confirmation information and check in instructions (view here). If there are any mistakes, please contact me at amy@secretsofmaui.com.
Note that Anthurium House is at a condominium complex and, unlike a hotel, the front desk is not open 24 hours. For late arrivals, please take note of the alternative directions listed below. If your arrival is on a major holiday, please call in advance (808-874-5151 or 888-315-6453) to get the correct check-in procedure for that particular holiday. If you let me know ahead of time that you have a flight arriving late or on a holiday, I can request your front door code ahead of time so you can skip Step 1. Standard check-in time is 3 pm and check-out time is 11 am. STEP 1 Anthurium House has an electronic lock system for the front door. Call the guest service center at 808-874-5151 to receive the code. I recommend calling after landing or on your way from the airport in case you receive a busy signal or are placed on a long hold. If you don’t have a cell phone, there is a courtesy phone at the Maui Kamaole front desk. For Late Arrivals: If arriving after 5:00 PM Mon – Fri or after 4:00 PM on the weekend, please call 808-264-2454 or 800-841-9776 for check-in procedures. (The after-hours contact person is checking-in numerous guests who may have arrived on your same flight and are calling at the same time so you may receive a busy signal or need to leave a voice mail.) Note: If you let me know ahead of time that you have a flight arriving late or on a holiday, I can request your front door code ahead of time so you can skip Step 1. STEP 2 Valid I.D. and your rental car license plate is required at check-in. Upon arriving at Maui Kamaole, go directly to the Front Desk to register and receive your parking pass (near the lower pool — veer slightly right as you go up the hill). If you arrive late and it is closed, be sure to stop by the following morning to register and receive your parking permit. Our parking space is A21. Your car will be fine there overnight.
The front desk staff is able to provide you with information and assistance with regard to the property, however, they are unable to assist with anything pertaining to the interior of the condo. Condominium Rentals Hawaii (CRH) is our on-island property management and their staff is happy to assist you with any questions or concerns regarding the interior. Contact information is clearly displayed in the kitchen. You may also contact Amy at (916) 642-2936 or amy@secretsofmaui.com. As an added note, Anthurium House includes a startup supply of soap (include laundry), paper towels and toilet tissue; replenishment of these items is the guest’s responsibility.

Anthurium House has one assigned parking space (A21) just a few spaces away from the building. Your check-in documentation will also list the parking spot, which sits under a tree that provides some shade in the morning (and sometimes drops nuts so put your top up if you rented a convertible). There are guest spaces for daily visitors. (Please speak to the front desk if you need to purchase an additional parking space for overnight parking.) There are no stairs from your car to the front door of Anthurium House since we are on the ground level, making unloading luggage and strollers a breeze!
Keys can easily be lost at the beach, so we chose to use a keyless entry system. During check-in, you will receive a code that you enter on the door knob to unlock the door. (The door will lock automatically when closed.) This door code is unique to you and is 6 digits. Due to the length of the code, it may take you a few days to memorize it. Be sure to enter the number into your phone or leave a copy of the code in your car. The pools also utilize an electronic lock with a different code that will be provided at the front desk during check-in.
Your check-in paperwork will include the phone number for our on-island property manager (CRH) and Maui Kamaole security (the numbers are also listed in the kitchen). Basically, if you have an issue outside the unit, call Maui Kamaole (like a noisy neighbor, for example). If there is something missing, broken or not working inside (i.e., WiFi, TV, AC, etc.), please contact CRH. I am always happy to help with anything I can, but since I’m not on the island they should be your first calls. I would be happy to follow up on the issue for you, so please text, email or call me to let me know your concerns as well!
Check out time is 11:00 am Hawaiian Standard Time (HST). Late check outs will be considered if another guest is not checking in on the same day. Please email amy@secretsofmaui.com to see if a late check out is possible. Guaranteed late checkouts will require a small fee (fee varies depending on time and season).

Don’t be scared by our “book now” button. You can submit an “inquiry” using that button without a credit card, and I will send you a custom proposal for you to consider (assuming the dates are available). Like what you see and ready to book? There is a link on the proposal where you can secure your stay with a $350 deposit. Don’t delay — dates aren’t held until the deposit is paid. Request your proposal now at www.anthuriumhouse.com or email amy@secretsofmaui.com.
We only ask $350 upon booking with the remaining balance due 30 days before check-in. If you are within 30 days, the entire amount will be required. We accept credit cards using Stripe, a secure online credit card payment system that processes billions of dollars a year. If you would prefer to pay by U.S. check, please contact me at amy@secretsofmaui.com for the address to mail it to.
Yes! Please contact me at amy@secretsofmaui.com for custom quotes. (We love Snowbirds and repeat guests and discount accordingly! Please note that Anthurium House includes free calls to Canada and anywhere in the US.)
