Today we woke up wanting to do something a little different. We were heading to Baby Beach at Baldwin on the north shore when our youngest fell asleep. Wanting him to get a decent car nap, we passed the turnoff for the beach and kept driving. I quickly searched for an article I had saved about things to do in the Paia/Haiku area. I remembered a picture of a labyrinth and knew I found what I was looking for when I stumbled upon the website for the Sacred Garden.

SECRET: Maui Sacred Garden is my new favorite “secret” on the island. It is the perfect place to slow down and reflect. It’s also incredibly kid friendly. This place is like a prescription chill pill for overstimulated children.

From the parking lot, we were greeted with the sound of tropical birds, wind chimes and flowing water. It took just one look at the jungle setting to know we were somewhere special. We walked through a beautiful gift shop and entered a flower nursery filled with surprises around every corner.

After exploring the garden and getting our bearings, my son made a little game plan of what he wanted to do first — starting with the tabletop Zen garden.

Next, we did the inside and outside labyrinths, scavenger hunt, gratitude journal, played checkers (with the chess board) and a board game, and more!

I don’t want to spoil the fun by sharing too much, but we spent three hours there (without anyone throwing a fit). We would have stayed longer if had brought a picnic.

SECRET: If you need a place to find serenity, inspiration, peace or just somewhere out of the sun or rain, the Sacred Garden is your spot.

As a side note, I wrote the first draft of this post (my only opportunity to write in our 3 weeks on the island) at the Sacred Garden sipping on a free cup of tea enjoying the peacefulness of the garden. My family was calmly playing a board game near the kids area. They were outside but protected from the sun and rain. Win! Win! And now I’m back on a girl’s trip and putting the final touches on before publishing. Life clearly is too busy, and I can only slow down at the Maui Sacred Garden.

The Maui Sacred Garden is run off of donations, so please donate if you enjoy yourself and tell them Secrets of Maui sent you!

P.S. A porta potty is your only restroom option, so plan accordingly if that presents a problem. 😉

Where do you find your inner peace in Maui?
